I'm also keen on many of the killer clowns that have made an appearance throughout the category. Over the years we've seen some memorable contenders, but my favourites would have to be: My Bloody Valentine's maniacal miner, The Prowler's sadistic soldier and Wicked Games' copper-faced assassin.
Carpenter's seminal flick may not have been the maiden masked nightmare, but it certainly started the competitive race between directors to unveil the spookiest disguise for their bogeymen. Classroom Massacre, Keep my Grave Open and Savage Weekend clearly pre-date 1978, whilst The Town that Dreaded Sundown is widely regarded as one of the first teen-kill movies. There were also a couple of American pre-Halloween slashers that warrant a mention. Movies like Eyeball, Torso and Blood and Black Lace were the originators of a hooded maniac in a murder mystery. People often assume that it was John Carpenter that started the trend, but as is the case with many of the genre's clichés - the Italians did it first. That said, I foresee this coming out via Vinegar Syndrome any day now.Ĭreepy facemasks and slasher movies have gone together like cheese and chives throughout the lengthy lifespan of the cycle. If only this was made with less Cinemax After Dark feel and more giallo zeal. Much like any number of my favorite giallo, this ends with the killer being someone you would never think was the killer. Zipperface! I love yelling that name out for no reason at all.

Making things harder - I should have said difficult but this movie is obsessed with sex and it.rubbed off on me - is the fact that our heroine is dating Michael the photographer, the exact same man who everyone thinks could be the Zipperface. The investigation by Ryder and her partner Harry goes through more red herrings than a 1974 giallo, as they look into a misogynist cop, a crossdressing aide to the mayor, a priest and a photographer. Zipperface is killing actresses who are also BDSM prostitutes at night, which for some reason has upset Mayor Angela Harris.

Written, produced and directed by Mansour Pourmand, whose IMDB reveals is a person that emerges every 18 years to make a movie, like some crazed maniac that would be battled by Carl Kolchak, this is all about new cop Lisa Ryder (Dona Adams, whose mother Marilyn is also in this, which had to be uncomfortable) tracking down a serial killer on her very first case.
Zipperface is one of the scummiest movies I've ever watched that wasn't made in Italy, so imagine what that entails. In conclusion, I want my three bucks back. So instead of Zipperface killing prostitutes as sleazily as possible, we are treated to scenes of the lady cop falling in love with a murder suspect. Where's the Zipperface? Are they ashamed of him? Why isn't he around more? I don't know. Most of the movie is taken up by bad actors acting badly through drama scenes that no one who paid three bucks cares about. The masked killer rarely shows his leather bound face. But "Zipperface" has a big problem: Not enough Zipperface. When purchasing a movie called "Zipperface", it's not unreasonable to expect to see a guy in an S&M mask ripping and tearing his way through the movie. I mean, come on, I paid three bucks for this! Three whole dollars! On this! What did I get for my money? Not much. Well, that's what I was thinking when I bought it. The tag line is "The Last Face You'll Ever See!" All of this would lend you to believe that "Zipperface" is an undiscovered sleaze masterpiece. The video box cover has a woman in red lingerie lying on her back with a giant picture of a masked Zipperface behind her. *SPOILER ALERT* *SPOILER ALERT* I bought this video for three bucks.
